The calling of the chosen
The Holy Spirit is the infinite glory inside the true children of God, those born of water and the Spirit.
This was the apostle Paul’s understanding when he wrote:
"But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellence of the power may be of God and not of us," 2 Corinthians 4.7
But it was not always like this.
From Adam and Eve to the day when Jesus breathed the Holy Spirit upon the early apostles, there were no children of God. They believed in Jesus, but they were only regenerated after receiving His breath. This is, they were born of the Spirit.
Adam and Eve were created by God, not born of God.
No patriarch, priest, prophet, apostle or hero of the faith had the honor of being born of God until having a personal experience with the Lord Jesus and then receiving the Holy Spirit.
Jesus was the One who was born of the Holy Spirit in Mary’s womb.
The coming of the Holy Spirit gave start to the birth of the true children of God.
The conviction of salvation, the inner belief testified by the Holy Spirit in our spirit, manifests the glory of God in His children.
Jesus could not count on the obedience of the disciples until they were born of His Spirit.
The most they could be considered was friends. Not children.
"No longer do I call you servants, for a servant does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, for all things that I heard from My Father I have made known to you," John 15.15.
The state of being a child of God is more honorable than being an angel, because they, like Adam and Eve, were also created, and not born of God.
Therefore, the glorious calling that the apostles speak of is exactly the state of being a child of God, which we must protect like the apple of our eye.
Read, meditate and discuss the following verses as homework.
"Brethren, that not many wise according to the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble, are called.”
"Let each one remain in the same calling in which he was called." I Corinthians 1.26, 7.20
"I, therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you to walk worthy of the calling with which you were called…
There is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called in one hope of your calling.” Ephesians 4.1,4
"...I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus," Philippians 3.14
"Therefore we also pray always for you that our God would count you worthy of this calling, and fulfill all the good pleasure of His goodness and the work of faith with power..." 2 Thessalonians 1.11
"...Who has saved us and called us with a holy calling, not according to our works, but according to His own purpose and grace which was given to us in Christ Jesus before time began..." 2 Timothy 1.9
"Therefore, holy brethren, partakers of the heavenly calling, consider the Apostle and High Priest of our confession, Christ Jesus..." Hebrews 3.1
"Therefore, brethren, be even more diligent to make your call and election sure, for if you do these things you will never stumble," 2 Peter 1.10
